Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist and musician. She is also the youngest and first woman to be awarded a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka shankar is one of the rising stars of India's sitar. She is both the daughter and pupil of Ravi Shankar. Born in London, she spent the beginning of her career traveling between London and New Delhi. When she arrived in New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years old. Then the same year, in Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in 1999. Although she is still very young Anouskha has an impressive performing and recording. She often joins her father in performances this she has been doing for several years. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. It was nominated for a Grammy Award. Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Stage performances are a large part of her career. She has performed in a variety of important venues across the world. The career of Anoushka doesn't only comprise the world of music. She published Bapi The love of my life in the year 2002. Four years later, she made her sitar debut in Delhi for her father's 70th birthday party. Accompanying her father as they toured around the globe, Anoushka had a wealth of performances on stage at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also making recordings alongside George Harrison. Her musicianship and talent was recognised by British Parliament as being among the top at Asian Arts.
